Day 7: You Ain't Living until You’re Giving (Living Healthier & Happier)

One of the things that really impressed me about my husband when we first met was his generosity and giving heart. On several occasions when we were together, he would stop to do some random acts of kindness, mostly to people he didn’t even know. What a way to melt a girl’s heart; however, that was not his intention. That was genuinely his character and since we’ve been married for almost 18 years, I still see him giving, doing random acts of kindness, and serving people like I did when we first met.

One instance that comes to mind at that time when we were dating, was when I had a friend who had faced a terrible situation that caused her friends and some of our mutual connections to shun her from their life. She was a struggling single mother with a new baby. I shared her situation with my husband and he showed such compassion on this situation.

Every now and then when we stopped by to visit her, my husband would leave her some money to find after we had left. Other times, we would drive by when she wasn’t home and he would tuck some bills underneath her door. Back then, he was not by any means successful financially, but I have seen the favor of God surround him over the years and I believe that his success is a result of the many seeds he has sown in other people’s lives.

When we water, we will also be watered. When we give, we will also receive. The principle of giving and receiving is a spiritual law and I believe that God continues to poor out His blessings on us as we live to give. When you live to give you are inevitably going to be happier and it even says in Acts, “It’s more blessed to give than to receive.”

To be blessed means to be made happy or prosperous; extolled; happy, prosperous in worldly affairs; enjoying spiritual happiness and the favor of God; enjoying heavenly felicity. (1828 Webster Dictionary)

Below are just few organizations that are giving to help the needy that we support and would love for you to check out and join in if you are involved in a charity already.

Ask The Pastor radio show gives to Feed the Children in the Chicagoland area.
$25 feeds 5 hungry families
$50 feeds hungry families
$100 feeds 20 hungry families

Pledge to End Hunger
1 out of 6 children right in the US are going hungry. For some, school lunches may be the only meal. By pledging you are helping to send food trucks to these states-“NO KID HUNGRY” campaign.

Of course, there are personal ways that you can give. The key to living healthier and happier is to find a need and meet it in whatever way you can. “He who allows his day to pass by without practicing generosity and enjoying life's pleasures is like a blacksmith's bellows: he breathes but does not live” (unknown).

Another words, "you ain't living until you’re giving! Let’s live healthier and happier by finding a way that we can give to others!
